06 / OPEN SOURCE

Freedom to read.
Freedom to build.

Readers can report errors, developers can make new tools, and churches can reuse the text. The reasons for open-source software apply to a Bible translation too.

Nichijoyaku was created using AI. A complete review by human biblical-language and biblical-studies specialists has not been established. Read alongside established translations and original-language resources.

Maintained, and held in stewardship

Conor Livingston maintains and stewards this open-source Bible translation. The aim is to leave both the text and a record of decisions that others can inspect, improve and carry forward.

This is digital ministry at the technological frontier: making Scripture accessible and making the work behind it open to scrutiny.

CC BY 4.0 text; MIT software

The Japanese text of Nichijoyaku edition 1 and project-authored annotations are available under CC BY 4.0: copy, redistribute, adapt and use commercially with credit, a license link and notice of changes. Project software is MIT-licensed. Third-party materials retain their own terms.

One edition, reusable formats

Book-by-book JSON, JSONL, CSV, plain text, USFM, an academic study layout in HTML, and furigana data are exported from the same verified Japanese edition. Print the study layout or save it as PDF, using its margins for notes. It is not a new translation or a scholar-reviewed edition.

Book hashes match the edition 1 manifest. Checksums cover every download. Furigana combines automatic readings with specific corrections and has not received comprehensive expert review.

Transparency through inspectable records

“The most transparent Bible translation” is our ambition, not a verified ranking of every translation. We publish surviving prompt-building code, settings, translation artifacts, numbering decisions and verification procedures.

The current prompt code can include reference translations. We therefore cannot claim that no other translations were supplied. Nor can a run record prove what was in a model’s training data. Missing historical logs stay documented as missing; newly created records do not replace them.

Recovered generation records

We publish 28,602 saved pre-alignment outputs from 1,096 chapters matching the release audit hashes. Of these, 6,446 retain prompts. Project-authored system instructions are available in full; user inputs have hashes and reference labels. Exact user prompts embed separately licensed Bible text and are not redistributed here.

Retained inputs include a Kougo label in 6,382 records and a KJV label in 6,390. These records contradict a claim that no reference translations were supplied. Ninety-four source chapter files are missing or changed and are excluded from release-linked outputs. Saved outputs are parsed translations, not raw model responses.
